Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community located in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" area. The West Island has a lot of communities. People who have never been aware of it frequently confuse it with a separate island facing west. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond her dance partners. She admitted in an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. The moment I outgrew my male counterpart then I slowed down. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the instance of Brugel,, it was a suggestion from her teacher of drama. She was encouraged to audition for a part in her school's production. She auditioned and eventually got the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. It led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. The career of Brugel spans more than twenty years, and she's performed in more than 60 shows, both on big screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
